I was going to get the blower and trimmer separately for $275 (two batteries), now I believe I’ll get this combo (one battery) plus an additional battery for $311.

This is the Li-ion battery. Don’t get the NiCad battery combo…good at first, but charging/batt memory problems later.

So far the tools work great and are light weight, but I am not getting acceptable battery life. Ten minutes tops. Maybe it will “break in”. I recall more comments like this in the trimmer only reviews.

I was really excited about getting my new WORX WG913.51 3-Piece 18 Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Combo Kit With Blower, String Trimmer & Hedge Trimmer. Within the first week of owning it, I tried out all 3 pieces and while they are fairly underpowered, they suited my mostly light-duty yard work well. I really appreciated not having to deal with gasoline mixes and tangled extension cords. Even though the battery charger is supposed to charge the battery in 30 minutes, be prepared to wait an hour or more because the battery must first cool off before it charges so plan accordingly.

But on the 3rd weekend I did yard work (approximately 180 minutes of use and 5 days past their 30 day window for return), the battery would no longer hold a charge. I called Worx about getting a new battery sent. I had to wait on hold for 20 minutes before getting connected to an outsourced customer service rep over a static-y VOIP connection. The rep begrudgingly agreed to send a new battery for my 5 week old tools while simultaneously insisting I was not their “client” because I bought it from another website. She said I should receive the battery in 7 to 10 business days. After 3 weeks passed with no battery, I called again and again had to wait over 20 minutes just to speak with someone. Fortunately the hold message offered a website address that you could check your order status so I typed it while waiting. It told me there was a problem with my order and instructed me to call customer service. I figured they never got my address right due to the static on the first call so I continued to wait on the line. When I finally got connected, the rep told me that due to the “overwhelming popularity” of the Worx products the battery was on back-order but promised that my battery would be shipped in the next 24 to 48 hours. A few hours after I got off the phone, I checked the order status website again which now states, “Due to the overwhelming response, your order is on back order and will ship within the next 15 business days. Please check back periodically for updates.”

I’m not holding my breath that I will get a working battery anytime soon.

So it’s a decent product for what it is when it works. Just keep a set of back-up tools for when it doesn’t.
